The Summer Intern will contribute to advanced cybersecurity research and prototyping efforts for a Defense Cyber Operations program. The intern will assist in building AI/ML-driven tools that support threat detection, data enrichment, and automation within DoD environments. Ideal candidates will have strong interests in robotics, machine learning, and software development, and be eager to apply those skills in support of national security missions.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applied machine learning, cloud-based DevSecOps environments, and cyber innovation projects alongside technical mentors and engineers.
Responsibilities:
· Assist in the design, development, and evaluation of AI/ML models for cybersecurity use cases such as threat detection, anomaly detection, and data classification.
· Contribute to data preparation and preprocessing and support the integration of models into broader data pipelines using tools such as Jupyter Notebooks, Elastic, and GitLab.
· Collaborate with engineers across cloud, cybersecurity, and AI disciplines to align technical implementations with the architectural goals of the program.
· Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, and technical discussions within a SAFe Agile environment.
· Document code, testing procedures, and model outputs; develop technical diagrams and summaries to support traceability, reproducibility, and compliance with DoD standards.
· Conduct research on emerging AI/ML frameworks and academic literature to inform development decisions and innovation.
· Draft internal presentations, white papers, and status updates that clearly summarize technical findings and recommendations.
· Support the creation of data visualizations that communicate AI/ML performance metrics and cybersecurity insights.
Requirements:
· Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
· Foundational experience with Python, C++, and Java programming languages.
· Familiarity with basic ML workflows (data cleaning, model training, evaluation)
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, disability, veteran status, age, genetic information, or other legally protected status.
