Job Description:

Location: Civil Engineering, 2445 West Furnas Ave, Lincoln, NE


Job Duties:


*Develops and implements environmental plans and programs, including strategies, modeling techniques, protocols, and standards to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
*Conducts surveys and inspections to assess compliance with regulatory and permit requirements, performing inspections at required frequencies; prepares corrective action plans and compliance evaluations.
*Reviews facility plans, environmental impact statements, and other documents to identify potential environmental impacts and ensure continued compliance with regulations.
*Prepares technical memorandums, reports, and presentations for the supervisor, regulatory agencies, and the public, as needed, to meet reporting requirements and communicate program goals.
*Drafts and updates technical guidelines and environmental plans in response to evolving regulatory standards, and reviews contracts related to the environmental projects within the facility.
*Utilizes advanced statistical and modeling techniques to analyze environmental data, recommending pollution prevention or abatement strategies as necessary.
*After becoming familiar with the facility's waste management practices, determines the appropriate methods for the storage, treatment, and disposal of various waste types (air, solid waste, hazardous waste, and wastewater), ensuring compliance with DoD, Air Force, and applicable regulations.
*Operates, calibrates, and maintains scientific instruments and equipment, performing necessary maintenance to ensure accurate data collection.
*Develops and applies innovative methods for interpreting environmental data and evaluating programmatic impacts, and collects environmental samples for waste management and regulatory compliance.
*Maintains environmental data, prepares reports and tracks waste management record on a weekly basis to ensure regulatory compliance.



Starting hourly pay rate is $25.120. Effective 7/1/2025 the hourly pay rate will be $25.685.




Requirements / Qualifications:




Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning, or a related field. Experience may substitute for education or a year-for-year basis.



Other: Background/motor vehicle request checks will be required. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to lift and transport items up to 50 pounds.


Knowledge of basic chemistry for waste characterization, principles of ecology, geology, hydrology, biological sciences, mathematics, physical and chemical sciences. Familiarity with basic statistical and analytical methods and scientific/technical data collection techniques. Proficient in using word processing, excel spreadsheets, and database management software. Practical application of engineering science and technology in environmental settings.


Skill in communicating effectively with individuals and groups from diverse technical backgrounds to gather and convey information. Strong listening skills with the ability to understand the respond to others' needs and concerns. Ability to prioritize workloads efficiently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously; must be flexible and able to re-prioritize workloads as needed. Proficient in using analytical judgement to make informed decisions. Experience with agency-specific software and databases, including Excel, Microsoft Word, and Powerpoint.
