We are looking for a Process & Formulation Specialist who will join our Controls R&D team.


This position will be based at The Scotts Miracle-Gro world headquarters in Marysville, a suburb of Columbus, OH.


The Process & Formulations Specialist will support product development from bench-top experiments to commercial launch with oversight. They will play a key role in innovating liquid and solid technologies for the consumer pesticide market. Responsibilities include developing new products and processes, improving existing formulations, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and potentially discovering new technologies. The Specialist will contribute to our strategy by providing formulations support. This role involves collaboration with Packaging Development, Biology, Marketing, Sourcing, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams.



Job Responsibilities:

Hands-on development and verification of new formulations at lab, pilot, and manufacturing scales in accordance with all applicable compliance requirements (e.g. FIFRA, OMRI). Create, route, and review necessary specifications.
Design and execute experimental plans to develop formulas and obtain qualitative and quantitative data required for product launch;
Provide technical support to operations, quality, and contract manufacturing for new or current formulations
Collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure alignment on project goals and maximize efficient use of resources versus milestones and commercialization schedules
Ship chemicals, manage Chemical Inventory and Safety Data Sheet archiving. Support company safety and 5S programs
Heavily engages with peers on formulation design and data analysis.
Prepare and arrange chemical samples for shipment and waste, per DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations;
Perform all project tasks in compliance with corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety principles;
Maintain laboratory upkeep, including chemical and equipment supply.



Desired Experience:

B.A/B.S in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other Science related field, minimum;
Familiarity with laboratory hoods, safety equipment, mixers, hot plates, pH meters, glassware, mills, basic analytical instrumentation, quantitative chemical analysis, and chemical reactivity (e.g., acids, bases, flammables);
Attention to detail, accuracy, strong math skills, scientific curiosity and rigor;
Networking skills to build support system and seek out new technologies
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Adaptability and flexibility to work independently as well as in a team environment
Basic computer skills including: use of spreadsheets, word processing and email


The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $59,700.00 - $70,200.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
