Job Description:

The State of Nebraska, Department of Health and Human Services, is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide special education programming, collaborate with home school districts, and monitor academic and behavioral progress of students at Morton School and Nebraska Youth Academy.


This role goes beyond traditional classroom teaching. The key objectives focus on academic progress, behavioral support, emotional well-being, and life skills development. We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide special education programming, collaborate with home school districts, and monitor academic and behavioral progress of students at Morton School and Nebraska Youth Academy.


The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Youth Treatment School System provides exceptional education and treatment services to youth with high acuity needs. As an educator, you'll play a key role in helping these young individuals discover their passion for learning. DHHS is committed to a holistic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative approach to youth care, and your work will make a lasting impact on their futures.



Requirements / Qualifications:




Minimum Qualifications: Any teaching endorsement, with a 7-12 certification preferred. Will consider candidates eligible for valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate, a Local Substitute Permit, or a State Substitute Permit. Demonstrated experience working with youth in adolescent treatment setting a plus.



Preferred Qualifications: A degree or certification in special education (6-12 preferred), prior experience in special education with a behavioral focus preferred, understanding of the MDT, IEP, and data collection processes. Experience working with a virtual learning platform, experience with behavior/trauma.



Other: Must have a satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.



Knowledge, skills, abilities:



Ability to regularly demonstrate patience, persistence, caring, empathy, and a desire to do what is best for these students. This position requires working directly with adolescents who may show physical aggression and uncooperative actions.
